Countless types of depression exist. Many of the types have similar names and meanings. These include medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. Severe depression refers to the most advanced form of the illness. Depression is brought on by many associating factors. One school of thought holds that it’s due to chemical imbalances, simple biology. DNA also carries depression. If your grandfather and father suffered bouts with depression than you may be at risk to suffer it as well.

Common factors can lead to different types of depression. Depression is often the result of substance abuse. Both alcoholics and drug abusers can contract depression. Depression is more likely after a close person dies. Mental depression historically has a stigma associated with it. Prior to mental illness being recognized as a disease it was considered by many to be a personal defect. The end result was treatment that was not appropriate or effective. Every stage of depression has its ill affects. That’s why early detection is vital to treatment.

Once the disease has progressed to severe depression the illness must be treated. At this stage suicide is often the result. The calls for assistance weren’t answered and now the chance to solve the problem is fading. Treatments include a combination of talk therapy and prescription drugs. There are also support groups that offer a helping hand. Natural herbs have also been found to work. Help is out there no matter the type of depression. If lingering signs of depression exist then please seek help. Actual cures for depression may involve a combination of antidepressants, psychoanalysis, nutrition and alternative holistic treatments, such as acupuncture.
