Boxing Training: Essential Practice Routines

August 31st, 2009 by admin in Recreation and Sports

boxing training tips:Practicing the One-Two Punch

Starting from the correct on-guard position the puncher throws the left jab and moves into position for the right-hand shot. He holds his right hand back to keep his opponent guessing as to whether or not he will throw more jabs, a left hook, or the right hand. The blocker keeps his shoulder high and rolls to his right just slightly.

The puncher immediately follows the left jab with the right cross. The left is snapped back for protection and is ready to go again. Proper timing is all-important. The right cross must instantly follow the left jab. The puncher must not telegraph his right by pulling it back, or by lifting up the elbow.

The right must be snapped right from the on-guard position. The block is the same as for the right cross. Again, the left is dropped by the puncher only for practice purposes. If the puncher hesitates between the punches, the blocker usually will counter with his left, thereby offsetting the right-hand shot.

The one-two punch is usually more effective after the puncher has bothered his opponent with a series of jabs, mixed in with a few left hooks, or a feint, followed by the left hook. The objective should be to bother the opponent so much with the left that a good right-hand opening is made. When the opening appears, the boxer should let the right fly without hesitation, and without trying to punch too hard. Stress to your boys that they must not punch hard, but fast, letting the speed provide the punch

Fishing For Bass Topwater Style!

August 31st, 2009 by admin in Recreation and Sports

When creating artificial fishing lures, the lure companies have to provide a wide array of lure types. Fish hunt a wide range of prey and these lures have to mimic the prey in some fashion. There are several things that have to be taken into account when dreaming up a fishing lure. Important aspects include, the colour of the prey the fish are hunting, the glean from the sun and how it affects visibility, the time of day and year the lure will be fished, among many other things.

With all the possible scenarios, comes a long list of lure types, sizes and colours. According to this bass fishing lure resource, there are soft and hard bodied lures, topwater lures, bottom baits and suspended lures. There are several subcategories as well for these lures. I’ll discuss one of the all time bass fishing faves, topwater fishing and topwater lures.

Topwater lures are just what you might expect, fishing lures that are fished on the surface of the water. Most topwaters have lips attached or cupped heads to create loud splashing or popping sounds when jerked. This loud splashing will be heard from fish at great distances.

Generally, topwaters are cast near some sort of cover where the bass love to hide and wait for prey. The lure is then pulled with short jerks and pauses. When the bass hits it is an amazing rush, as you not only feel the hit, but you can see and hear it as well! Often the bass will clear the water!

The best times for topwaters are in the early mornings and evenings. They are most effective in shallow waters.

Some of the popular topwaters include:

  • the Jitterbug
  • the Crazy Crawler
  • Manns Rat
  • the Heddon Lucky 13

So, tie on a topwater, head to a close by fishing spot and hook some bass. Good fishing!

Identify Autistic Signs At An Early Age

August 31st, 2009 by admin in Diseases, Conditions and Treatments

No parent wants to contemplate that their child may be suffering from autism, a devastating developmental disorder that is anticipated to affect more than one in 150 children in the United States. The affliction is thought to affect children from birth or the very first few months of life, and typically results in an abnormal development in the areas of language and communication, activities, and social interaction. While there isn’t as yet any cure for autism, there are currently quite a few different effective therapies and procedures which are readily available to help mitigate its effects; early diagnosis is essential.

As it is often very difficult for parents to analyze the intricate behaviors of their newborn child, it is also extremely difficult to determine whether the child is autistic or not. As all aspects of behavior are still quite immature in babies, including the ability to communicate, to establish relationships and to be involved in normal day-to-day activities, it can take quite a bit of time to identify deviations from what is considered normal. Also, it’s important to remember that there are a variety of symptoms, other factors and potentially other illnesses present as well, further complicating an accurate diagnosis. Sadly, if autism is present in children with above-average mental ability, unusual behavior or related abnormalities may be dismissed.

Whilst there is no absolute cure for autism, its cause also remains unknown. Most specialists think that prenatal damage to the brain is the most probable cause. Also, some experts think that the condition isn’t actually present at birth, while others think that it’s caused by external factors, such as the introduction of certain chemicals during routine vaccinations.

The incredible importance of the early identification of autism can’t be over-stressed. If a child’s behavior deviates significantly from the general pattern of development, treatment and adjustment might become complicated. Often, the child may resist any efforts to change their behavior. In most cases, it’s quite unusual to reach an accurate diagnosis of autism before two years of age. Therefore, many experts are formally requesting specialist training to be provided to primary care workers and family doctors, to give them the ability to recognize early warning signs. Parents, especially those with no other children, do not know what to expect and can often not judge whether or not the baby is developing “normally”.

Studies suggest that there could be two distinct types of autistic infant. On the one hand, there is a very quiet and undemanding child and on the other hand a very troubled baby who cannot be pacified and exhibits tantrums and behavior outbursts. Such a child might show a great deal of aggression, anger, and in some circumstances, may even kick or hit other people or animals. Other behaviors may be displayed, such as banging heads, constantly rocking back and forth, or scratching at blankets. The child may be fascinated by shiny objects yet appear to be disinterested in the majority of regular stimulants - objects or people.

During a clinical study of 28 cases dealing with autistic symptoms in very young children, a 1990 study suggested that it is possible to recognize autism in infancy. In particular, three areas should be observed.

Gaze: the study suggests that the infant will exhibit an unusual quality of gaze with this condition. The autistic baby will gaze only briefly and out of the corner of its eye.

Hearing: the autistic child will very likely not be deaf, but will exhibit symptoms as if it were. Very loud noises usually cause no reaction, but repetitive or unusual, brief sounds may invoke a lot of interest. This is potentially tied to perception abnormalities.

Social Relationships: in general, young babies tend to exhibit a particular interest in play, whilst babies with autism may show a complete lack of interest in this area and may shy away from social interaction with others. The autistic infant will likely not be easily stimulated, have a short attention span or may not show an interest in playing baby games, enjoy interaction with others or engage in communication with peers; this may be the primary pointer for parents to consider.

Early intervention remains the key to help improve the long-term prospects for the suffering child. It is important that health professionals who specialize in pediatrics understand and observe the potential characteristics and help parents to accurately diagnose and plan for the future.

Bonita Darula is widely renown for her insights into the prevention of autism. Her celebrated materials have helped thousands of people from around the World find a new sense of hope. Easy Coffee Shake And Other Leftover Coffee Ideas

August 31st, 2009 by admin in Food and Drink

I’m a big fan of a nice cup o’Joe and usually enjoy first thing in the morning two to three cups of delicious freshly brewed coffee. Over the past couple of months though, it has been way too hot to really enjoy my favorite morning beverage. I barely make it through my first cup and the rest of this yummy black brew stays in the coffee maker. I quickly grew tired of this and went online in search of some leftover coffee suggestions. There had to be some way to salvage my coffee and sure enough there was.

As a result, I am not only making better use of my leftover cold coffee, I also found some delicious cold alternatives like this iced coffee shake. It only takes a few minutes to blend together in the morning and is a nice way to start the day. I get the same amount of caffeine to get me going, but it’s a lot more fun to drink an iced coffee drink on those 95 degree plus days. Before long you’ll be just as addicted to this iced coffee shake as I am.

Here’s a simple tip if you are going to make quite a few iced coffee drinks. Take some of your leftover coffee, allow it to cool completely and then pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze. Use this instead of regular ice cubes to blend your iced coffee drinks. The end result is a much stronger and more flavorful coffee drink.

In the afternoon or for a lazy summer Sunday brunch, I prefer a different drink. This cold cappuccino drink fits the bill just right. Give it a try when you want to indulge yourself or to impress company. If you are serving this cold cappuccino drink in the afternoon, there is no need for anything else, but if you want to go all out, you can try serving it with a simple cookie or shortbread. Anything else would be overkill.

In case you didn’t know, you can save quite a bit of money by making your own frozen coffee drinks. I used to spent $20 at local coffee houses each week for these delicious cold treats until I started making my own. They are fast, fun and very easy to make. Go ahead and give it a try.

If you are a bit intimidated by the recipes mentioned in this article, get out a tall glass, add some ice or frozen coffee ice cubes, pour some cold coffee in it and add flavored creamer and sugar or sweetener to taste. Just stir and enjoy. It’ll cool you down and perk you up before you know it. Enjoy you summer!

Reiki Training — How does it work?

August 31st, 2009 by admin in Self Help and Motivational

A lot of years ago when my wife was done with her first levels of reiki training, she wanted to give me a reiki session. At that time I knew nothing about reiki, and although I was skeptical about it, I was open to try it. Oh my god, the session was incredible. Afterward I felt as if my legs were made of spaghetti! Like a silly child, I just couldn’t stop laughing.

She knew what she was doing, her reiki training had been thorough, but this was just the beginning. Basically the session had opened the emotional flood gates. All the blockages that had been clogging up my aura were now flowing out in torrents. I laughed and laughed as if I had smoked something illegal, but it was better than that as I was clear in my head and focused. I loved it like crazy. It was cool! I felt very odd, but it was sweet, and from then on we would never look back. Actually every time Daniela would channel something new I would be the first one to be initiated into the energy, and what an adventure to be Daniela’s Ginni-pig :-) Reiki training, get it here: reiki training

Today Daniela is one of the most successful spiritual teachers, energy system creators, and karmic psychic psychologist around. She has channeled systems, which have spread around the world like “WhiteLight Self-Empowerment.” She has channeled the modern grid systems too. These included “Grid Connection the Healing grid,” and “Golden Eye Grid.” She has an innovative website network that covers just about anything you will ever need to know about reiki, energy work, the power of thought in “Ecology Of Thought,” the law of attraction (or better: the law of resonance), and much more; and it all started with Usui reiki.

Before you starting your reiki training here is a little background: Reiki (spoken: Ree-Kii) the concept comes from Japanese, and is the expression for the universal life energy, “chi” in Chinese.

Reiki was known way back. It is a very old cure, written in the old Sanskrit Sutras over 2500 years ago. Rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the 19th century it goes on today. The Usui System of Reiki is still very popular today, and most people start off with this kind of reiki training. If you want the best reiki training go here: reiki classes

By gently laying ones hand on or slightly above the body, after your reiki training, reiki is given to oneself, or to others. The giver, the one who provides the Reiki-Energy, is the channel for the energy. Through the hand this energy is given to the receiver.

Reiki works at a physical level, and is relaxing and pleasant. On the emotional level it creates confidence in oneself, and in others. It helps to find harmony and balance, and strengthen the zest for life. And, finally, it works on the mental level too, helping you to cope with everyday stress better.

Since there are lots of new and different forms of reiki systems these days, you really don’t need this simple reiki training anymore when starting out. Here are just a few of the hundereds : Usui-Reiki, Komyo Kai Reiki, Karuna Reiki or Shamballa Reiki. No System is really better than others, only the way it is taught and presented might be better. In my experience all the different forms of Reiki work together very well. But there are similar systems that are purer and more powerful like WhiteLight Self-Empowerment. In The Backyard For Beef Barbecue Recipes

August 30th, 2009 by admin in Food and Drink

Should you cook those baby back ribs over propane barbecues or barbecues charcoal? Should you marinate the meat beforehand or just baste the sauce on while cooking? Do you want to make beef, chicken or pork for your meal?

Do you want thick sauce or thin sauce, spicy or sweet, vinegary or tomato flavored? The choices seem endless. Perhaps to start with your barbecue cooking, you should take a look at some of the popular varieties of BBQ sauce in America.

barbecue cooking
Memphis, Tennessee is famous for its barbecued cooking and is home to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, which attracts 90,000 BBQ fans each May. The wet ribs are made with a mild, sweet sauce basted on the ribs before and after they’re smoked.

Another variety is dry-rubbed with a spice blend as they’re cooking or right after they’re done. Another variety is the classic pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw, which many say is the best way to experience Memphis barbecue, rather than the brisket BBQ recipes.

Of course no discussion of barbecue cooking could be complete without mentioning the Lone Star state! Texas has four different BBQ recipes ribs can be made out of. In East Texas (Houston/Dallas), pork shoulder or rib is slow-smoked over hickory wood and topped with sweet, thick tomato sauce like that served in Tennessee or Arkansas.

barbecues propane
In Central Texas (Austin/Lockhart), European style cuts of leftover pork and beef are cooked with native oak and pecan over high heat, marinated and served without extra sauce on the side and no sides other than saltine crackers, onions and cucumber pickles.

South Texas BBQ, influenced by its Mexican border, serves up cow’s head wrapped in wet maguey leaves, buried in a pit of hot coals for hours, then made into tacos. Lastly, Northern Texan BBQ, developed by cowboys, involves beef shoulder and brisket meat cooked on an open pit using heat from mesquite.

Summer is the time for beef barbecue recipes. The smell of burning meat wafts through the air, inspiring a slew of amateur chefs to break out their charcoal grills and fire up their propane tanks on that warm summer evening. While you may find a number of sites with brisket BBQ recipes, you may feel a more spontaneous urge to eat BBQ, in which case a store bought sauce is good to have handy.

BBQ recipes ribs
For Kentucky BBQ, try Evan Williams, Jim Beam Kentucky Bourbon Steak Sauce or Ole Ray’s. For Kansas City BBQ, you can try KC Masterpiece and for St. Louis style, you’d like Maull’s BBQ Sauce. Cattleman’s serves up Memphis style sauce, while Iron Works B-B-Q Sauce hails from Texas.

Increase Your Fishing Pleasure With Special Privileges At A Private Bass Pond

August 30th, 2009 by admin in Recreation and Sports

Have you ever been frustrated with all the people and noise at your local fishing hot spot? Competing with other eager fishermen begins long before the reeling begins. First, there’s a rush for arriving to the lake earlier than everyone else, then, another rush, trying to grab your favorite or best spot. If you’re an avid fisherman then the answer is yes. Wouldn’t it be great to have a fishing lake all to yourself? Wouldn’t fishing for bass in private surroundings be a dream come true? It sounds terrific, but how can you be allowed the luxury?

It’s worth the challenge. Land owners may be a bit suspicious of you, but who can blame them. No one, especially a property owner, appreciates trespassers and litterbugs. Sometimes they can be a bit distant especially when approached about fishing on their property. When you talk to these property owners be cordial and friendly. Assure them you are not going to trash their property and will be quiet and respectful while you are there. Try to give them about a week’s notice when you would like to fish. Be sure to let them know when you are there and when you are leaving.

Always ask them if there is a certain area they would prefer you park in. You don’t want to be a nuisance, be sure to respect their privacy, and, always be understanding, there may be times they will have to ask you not to come - even though it was pre-arranged. If they are very negative and give you an out and out no, thank them for their time.

You never know when you might see them again and because you handled it well this time they may say yes the next time. Once you establish yourself as a responsible guest, the private pond owner may allow you to invite along other bass fishing friends. Show a genuine interest, ask if there are more places on the land that they might allow you to fish on. Many good sized farms have lots of secret fishing spots. They may even know of other property owners with ponds that would not mind if others fished their pond. Always leave the property the same way you found it.

Clean up any trash you made. Offer the owners some fish, cleaned of course. Think for a moment, if it were your own property, how you would expect visitors to treat your land. Once you’ve established a friendship with the owner, it would be polite to send them thank-you notes and add them to your holiday list. Be thoughtful and suggest you are willing to help them out with a few tasks if they ever need a hand.

What are you waiting for? Isn’t it time you find that perfect private fishing pond, relax, and tie on one of your favourite topwater bass lures?
