10 ways to boost your metabolism and get in shape. Useful Info to Remember

May 31st, 2009 by admin in Health and Fitness

#1 Don’t Skip Breakfast

The morning meal jump starts your metabolism and helps to prevent being later in the day. A cup of coffee does not count – the caffeine and added sugar may give you a bit of energy and suppress your appetite for a little while it is sure to back fire into severe hunger and you will be more likely to overeat later. Breakfast should include complex carbohydrates like whole grain (granola or oatmeal), along with some protein and fat (low-fat yogurt or milk), will keep your energy levels even and hunger in check.

#2 Eat more often

Get into the habit of eating every three to four hours or at least four times a day. Eating frequently stabilizes blood sugar, when blood sugar drops too low you want to eat…a lot. By keeping your blood sugar stable you can control your appetite and keep you metabolic rate high. When you go many hours without eating your body will compensate by slowing down to conserve energy…this effect hurts your weight loss efforts.

#3 Eat protein at every meal

Protein will help to reduce your appetite, it takes more energy and time to digest, in effect you feel full longer than eating carbohydrates alone. Research shows that eating more protein can help you lose weight without cutting calories. Try these protein possibilities: turkey on whole wheat; hummus and pita; vegetarian chili; fruit and nuts; or protein snack bars that contain 12 or more grams of protein.

#4 Hold off on snacking

Many of us grab a snack for quick energy when we are feeling tired. But do not confuse true hunger with fatigue. If you are feeling tired go for a 15-20 minute brisk walk. This will raise your heart rate and give you a boost of energy. Follow it up with a large glass of cool water. If you are truly hungry have a protein and complex carbohydrate rich snack like; whole wheat crackers and peanut butter or cheese.

#5 Consume enough for your body’s needs

Eating too little slows your body’s metabolism the same way eating to infrequently does. If you want to lose weight, do not slash your calories too drastically. Instead, cut out some of the extras in your diet – things like soda, juice, packaged goods or candy. Processed foods tend to be high in fat and calories and low in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

The market is saturated with low-fat, low-carb and sugar-free foods. But despite the popular diets, “magical” pills and the latest, greatest fitness machines that all promise to melt away the pounds, more than half of American adults are overweight.

Nutritional Supplements and Your Health

May 31st, 2009 by admin in Health and Fitness

Walk through any supermarket or retail chain store and you will find rows upon rows of health supplements; in fact, go to the mall and you will find entire stores dedicated to them. It is absolutely mind boggling how many there are to choose from, and it leaves a person wondering if they should buy several supplements for optimum health, or go with a once-a-day vitamin to cure all their nutritional ailments.

In theory, a nutritional supplement is supposed to supply nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and amino acids, that are missing from a person’s diet and are essential for someone’s health. Herbal supplements are also included under the umbrella term “supplements.”

Most herbs and botanicals that are found in these supplements are naturally occurring in different parts of the world. Somewhere along the way, someone came up with the idea of bottling and selling them. Some Supplements claim to help you reduce your risk of just about everything, including high cholesterol, high blood pressure, anxiety and fatigue. And there are also supplements that claim to help increase your motivation, concentration, and your metabolism. So, which do you choose?

First, before you buy anything, you should assess exactly what it is that you are trying to accomplish. Choosing supplements that are designed to work to lower your blood pressure are not going to help with your cholesterol problem. Next, talk to your doctor about your health, if for no other reason than to let them know what you are taking. Sometimes naturally occurring substances, no matter how harmless they seem, can have an adverse reaction to your health when mixed with prescribed medication.

So, when searching for supplements specifically to keep your heart healthy, you should look for those that contain ingredients that address the major risk factors that can lead to heart disease. These include: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, stress and physical inactivity.

Without a doubt, there are a lot to choose from, and you must be careful that you don’t get caught buying a product that will provide no benefit at all. Make sure that the company producing the vitamins has published clinical trials of their studies related to the product.

In order for one of these studies to get published in a scientific journal the scientific community as a whole must agree upon the findings. There are not very many natural health companies with published studies. Most companies hire their own scientists and do biased testing on their products.

However, within the good natural health companies there are a number of great products that have been designed by nutritionists and researchers to naturally lower cholesterol levels, blood pressure levels, reduce stress and increase energy levels throughout the day; as a direct result, these also encourage an increase in physical activity. Some supplements that do just that are Green Tea, folic acid, magnesium, and C and B vitamins.

If stress and anxiety seem to plague your health, don’t worry, there’s a natural supplement for that. For anyone, you know that short-term stress is unavoidable. Sometimes, chronic or long term stress can be caused by your job, financial worries and your personal relationships. This too may be unavoidable.

Without a major life change, it is often impossible to alter these specific situations; luckily, it is possible to change the way you respond to them. Chronic stress can also lead to depression, which often accompanies heart disease.

One of the supplements you can take to help with anxiety is Ginkgo Biloba, combined with ginger. This supplement has been shown to reduce anxiety caused by chronic stress. Individuals in chronic stress situations should also consider taking extra vitamin C because stress quickly zaps the level of vitamin C in your blood stream. A lack of vitamin C can lead to low energy and can mimic the symptoms of iron deficiency, so it may be worth a check with your doctor to rule out anemia.

In addition to all the above, it is also important to note that a recent 2007 study found that regular supplementation with vitamin E, beta carotene, and vitamin A increased mortality by four, seven, and 16 percent respectively. Not only can supplements help you have more energy and feel better, they can help you live longer too! Who can argue with that?

Overall, most agree that supplements are a good way to fill in the health gaps that your not-always-balanced diet leaves behind. In addition, for those times when you are not able to get a good night’s sleep, or you are suffering from a bad week at work, these natural products can help ease your anxiety and make you feel as though you are back on a level playing field. When it comes to your health you just can’t neglect your body and what you are putting into it.

Think Differently To Be Wealthy?

May 31st, 2009 by admin in Self Help and Motivational

Even though you have a strong desire or the drive to be wealthy, your mental game will influence your action.

Do you fear of ‘losing’, especially when it comes to money? Most may take risks but when it comes to money, they take absolutely take no chances with it.

(Sidebar: You can more free personal improvement and self help articles, videos, etc at successandlife.com.)

This is the employee mentality where job security and a steady pay check each month is the norm.

Please be aware that I’m not criticizing — but making a general point.

What you need to do is to create your own winning environment. Take a closer look — if you’re afraid to lose, it’s probably not your fault because you’ve been taught that way from others and the environment unconsciously.

Money doesn’t grow on trees? Assume that they do. A tree needs water, sunlight and fertilizer to grow. If you want to grow your money, you also have to give it a suitable environment.

First, you have to stop talking money issues with people who have negative views about money. Hang around with people who are driven to make more money for themselves and not those who are just able to balance their income and expenses each month based on their pay check.

You could get some education on money matters. That is the key. Maybe you can learn about investing or take up a part time business like multi level marketing, home business or internet marketing. Maybe investment is not for you but if you look around you, there must be something out there that will help you make additional income. Maybe investing in real estates can be your cup of tea. I don’t know, it’s your life.

If you do find yourself in the right environment, are you willing to ‘work’ to be rich?

An environment is just part of the leverages you can get to achieve more. Remember, to be rich, you still have to work for it.

If that is uncomfortable to know, then you are just going to keep on dreaming. Sound harsh doesn’t it? Well, I’d rather be honest and become the ‘bad guy’ then ‘helping’ you to build a castle in the sky. You’ll only end up disappointed.

If you want proof, go check out the life stories of rich and famous people in your local bookstores. Do you really think Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates or Donald Trump were born rich?

One tip is this — no matter how rich you become, you can always have that back but you can never rewind the time passed. So make your goal a journey, but not a destination. You will then be able to appreciate every detail of your journey, whether they are good or bad because ultimately, they all play a part in preparing you to achieve your goal. The bad will make you wiser and move you closer to success while the good ones, they’re just good. (smile)

You’ll appreciate those who laugh with you and those who support you through the hard times. You’ll have to achieve little goals to reach you ultimate ‘big’ goal but a lot of people don’t see these little goals because all they care about is the ‘big’ goal. But when it’s a journey, you’ll be able to stop and pick up the flowers along the way to smell.

How Trigger Factors Can Aggravate Rosacea

May 31st, 2009 by admin in Diseases, Conditions and Treatments

Rosacea is a incurable skin disorder that causes a persistent redness of the cheeks, forehead and nose. Most sufferers use topical rosacea treatments to keep the condition under control. However, even with the best rosacea treatments, patients often are faced with flare-ups that are caused by so-called rosacea triggers.

Many rosacea trigger factors exist, which aggravate the chronic inflammation of the facial skin. Anything that can cause blood vessels to dilate, that can stimulate the immune system or anything that has a direct effect on the skin, can be a trigger factor. Many different trigger factors are present simultaneously, which makes it hard for rosacea patients to figure out what trigger factors affect their condition. Rosacea trigger factors can be classified as:

  • Stress and stress related factors
  • Sun exposure
  • Food ingredients
  • Weather Conditions

Unless you are forced to be outside all the time (for a job perhaps), weather and sun exposure are trigger factors that can be controlled the easiest. Rosacea patients are frequently advised to limit their sun exposure and to protect their skin with a sun block. Sunscreens that contain titanium dioxide or zinc-oxide instead of chemical sunscreens are usually better for rosacea. Reducing the exposure of the skin to extreme cold or hot weather is something everyone can do.

Stress is a trigger factor that is more difficult to control. Although we may not want to become stressed out over something, stress can occur before we realize it. Stress-related emotions such as embarrassment, anxiety or excessive worrying directly or indirectly stimulate the flushing processes of the skin and could therefore make rosacea symptoms worse. Stress has a very negative effect on our health, weakening our immune system and stimulating the production of certain hormones. A more balanced way of life combined with a good diet and perhaps vitamin B supplements will reduce the impact that stress has on our health.

Food ingredients make up the largest group of rosacea triggers. There are many different ingredients that cause rosacea flare-ups and not every rosacea patient reacts the same. Sometimes, one has to put in a lot of effort to figure out exactly which foods make rosacea symptoms worse. For that reason, it may help to keep a detailed food diary. Remove one ingredient from your diet at a time and wait a few days to observe the effect of the elimination. While it may take 24 hours to see an adverse effect of a particular food item on rosacea, it usually takes at least twice as long to see a potential improvement after eliminating a food ingredient.

Aged foods are often high in histamine and tyramine can aggravate rosacea symptoms. Foods such as aged cheeses, wine, beer, chocolate, tomatoes, bell peppers, cabbages, lettuce often have to be eliminated from the diet. Also, alcohol and caffeine containing drinks should be limited, since alcohol and caffeine stimulate flushing of the face. However, even if you have successfully eliminated trigger foods from your diet, there could be spices, food flavorings and preservatives that can act as triggers.

At last, there are drugs or foods that can increase the amount of nitric oxide (NO) in the blood, which acts as a vasodilator. Foods that are high in the amino acid arginine (such as certain nuts, soy and chocolate) can increase nitric oxide. Also, the nitrate preservatives often found in cured meats increase NO in the blood. Drugs such as the erectile dysfunction drugs also work to increase nitric oxide in the blood and can therefore make rosacea worse.

Identifying the various rosacea triggers in food and the environment is the first step toward better looking skin. This, combined with a suitable topical treatment for rosacea will result in a successful long-term management of symptoms for many rosacea sufferers.

The Best Secrets of Gaining Weight - Good Sugestion

May 30th, 2009 by admin in Health and Fitness

Why does everyone wait until the New Year to do something about their health and fitness? It is traditional for everyone to resolve to lose weight or exercise more. I think we should start now. I guess you are laughing at the thought of watching your weight during the Holidays.

Do you have Holiday parties to go to? It is possible to watch your weight even then. One good tip is to drink at least one glass of water before you go to the party. Very often we think we are hungry when we are actually dehydrated. My next suggestion may not be received well. Drink water at the party instead of alcohol. First of all the roads will be much safer if people would do it. But looking at it from a “weight” view, you could save a lot of calories. Put a slice of lemon or lime in your water. You don’t need alcohol to have a good time.

There are so many tempting foods at Holiday parties and Holiday dinners. You do not just have to pick from the vegetable platters. You can have anything you want. Don’t deprive yourself. That makes you want the food even more. Allow yourself a taste or two of food that is really fattening. Portion control allows you to eat many different things. I believe that the dieter’s favorite word should be MODERATION. If you follow moderation, you will not feel deprived. You will not overeat. You will try a variety of things. It is not as difficult as you think.

That takes care of the food issue. Now lets talk about exercise. How stressed are you? At this time of year many people get totally stressed. There is just too much to do. Do you find it hard to believe that you can fit exercise in your busy schedule? You may not be able to fit in a workout at the gym but there are other things you can do.

The Christmas lights and decorations are scattered throughout your neighborhood. Get the whole family out. Take a walk and look at everything. If your neighborhood does not decorate go to another one. It will really get you in the spirit and the family will be exercising together.

The malls are really crowded at this time of year. Use that to your advantage. Don’t keep driving around trying to find a close parking place. Park on the outskirts and walk. What a novel idea. It amazes me how people feel that they have to park close. Not only are you getting a little exercise, but you are saving a few pennies of that black gold that fuels your car.

Most phone are cordless now, so when you are talking on the phone, do not sit. Walk around. Do exercises. Just keep moving. It is amazing how many calories you can burn when you keep moving.

I hope that you will take my advise and start your fitness and health program now. Get a head start on the beginning of the year. You will be better off if you do.Read more other articles about leptopril and running for weight loss.

Plantar Fasciitis Pain and How it Can Be Helped With Orthotic Inserts and Foot Stretching Exercises

May 30th, 2009 by admin in Diseases, Conditions and Treatments

It is not uncommon for many people nowadays to be afflicted by heel pain that is so excruciating that it may prevent enjoying everyday things in life. Plantar fasciitis pain is one of the most common foot ailments among people today. The discomfort can begin as an irritating pain that you feel sometimes, and escalate into an intense pain that is felt every day. Sometimes, a hurting heel can go away on its own, but, if left untreated, the pain in the heel can worsen.

People can complain of heel pain in two main areas of the heel, under the heel and in the back of the heel. Commonly, when people feel pain in the back of the heel it is related to wear and tear or inflammation of the Achilles tendon. When people feel heel pain, it can be caused by a person stepping on a large stone or rock which bruises the heel, or the tissue in the bottom of the foot known as the plantar fascia can become inflamed. A heel that is hurt by a sharp object will heal on its own over time. However, if the foot pain is a result of inflammation of the plantar fascia, there are a few things that need to be done to help including heel pain exercises and orthotics.

The plantar fascia is the soft tissue on the bottom of the foot that connects the heel to the toes. Under regular conditions, the plantar fascia is a flexible and strong section of the foot that helps the foot to support our weight and allows us to stay balanced. If the foot is under abnormal stress, such as excessive body weight, repetitive movements from sports, age or compromised foot function, it can cause small tears in the plantar fascia. These tiny tears typically occur near the calcaneus bone (heel bone), where they become inflamed and cause pain. If this tissue is repeatedly stretched it can cause the formation of heel spurs. Heel spurs are boney growths on the heel that can be the source of much pain.

If you are feeling heel pain, a suggested approach to help alleviate the stress on the bottom of the foot is to use orthotic shoe inserts and do foot pain exercises, that will strengthen the plantar fascia as well. One of the prescribed heel pain exercises is to stretch the foot before getting out of bed. The Plantar Fascia can tighten while you sleep, which causes the strong pain that people feel when they get up. By stretching the bottom of the foot before putting pressure on it, you can alleviate the pain you feel with your first morning steps. Another helpful exercise for stretching out the plantar fascia is to use the arch of the foot to roll a tennis ball or rolling pin. As this becomes less and less difficult you can try the same exercise in the standing position.

The next helpful thing to do is immediately put on a sturdy pair of shoes and orthotic insoles. This will help to cushion and support the bottom of your foot and help to keep it from additional damage. If you use the proper heel pain exercises and orthotic shoe inserts, you will see a great improvement in your heel pain. Make sure to pay attention to your body and if you are experiencing foot pain, see a doctor as soon as possible. This will ensure that your pain does not develop into a more serious condition.

Food Choices. Helpful Facts to Keep in Mind

Food Choices

Quote: I keep trying to lose weight but it keeps finding me!
- Anonymous

*********************************
As you progress further into any weight loss program the foods that you choose will change as initially you’ll be eating predominantly for weight loss.

As your weight gets to a more optimal level you will need to change your diet accordingly as maintenance rather than weight loss will be the key to your nutritional needs.

At any time if you find that you are reverting back to previous habits you should take action immediately and consider the life style and your health problems that those habits delivered to you in the past.

More Information:
http://www.healthe.ws/vitamins

The fitter and healthier that you get the easier it will be for you to stay away from those old habits.

For this reason where possible you should choose a weight loss program that will optimize your health as soon as possible even if you still have more weight to lose, simply because you will be far less likely to slip back into your old habits if you can see the progress coming fairly rapidly and you get to feel that your health is improving and your fitness levels are rising.

Even by taking the correct balance of vitamins and minerals will improve your well-being and help you to feel better about yourself. This will also make it easier for you to continue on a new dietary plan as the supplementation will reduce the chances of your body reacting to the changes in nutrition.

All things being equal, the person who uses supplements, provided they are the correct ones, will achieve more success a lot sooner with any weight loss program than another who tries to reach their goals without the added support that good supplements can bring.

You don’t need to go overboard as it is easy to spend a lot of money on supplements. Simply taking a good multi vitamin and mineral supplement daily will be sufficient to start with.

Crunchless Crunch
As you can tell from the name, this stomach exercise is very similar to the first. Instead of making a few stops as you exhale a deep breath, however, this exercise consists of just one move.

To start, either lie or on your stomach or kneel. You might want to try both ways and see which helps you feel the exercise better. Relax your body as much as possible, then try to use only the lower abdominals to move your belly button toward your spine. Hold for ten seconds. If holding for ten seconds feels easy, hold for a longer period.

The goal is to hold the contraction until you either cannot feel it, or you feel other muscles working harder than the transverse abdominus. When you feel this, let the contraction out.

Synaura: AVIA Maqui - The Healthiest Choice for 2009: How Synaura International can Help Improve Your Health and Your Pocket

May 30th, 2009 by admin in Health and Fitness

AVIA is the breakthrough product of Synaura International. Its main ingredient is the Maqui berry, combined with organic fruits and extracts, co-formulated by a Harvard physician who is board certified in anti-aging medicine. AVIA Maqui has been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress on the body, slow the aging process and even aid with weight loss. But what makes it different from all the other juice products available on the market, based on relevant properties of the product, from the perspective of a health professional?

AVIA’s main ingredient, the Maqui berry, comes from the deep and most remote regions of South America. It is a powerful antioxidant, having the highest ORAC score of any natural fruit or vegetable known to man, including the highly acclaimed Acai berry, even surpassing chocolate by nearly twice the level.
But what effects do oxidants have on the body and more importantly, how can antioxidants help us?

Simply put, oxidation is no more than rust. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. In the body, oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, (highly reactive unpaired electrons), which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves. As a result, antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols or polyphenols.

Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; hence, plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. Low levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, causes oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.

These oxidants can damage cells by starting chemical chain reactions such as lipid peroxidation, or by oxidizing DNA or proteins. Damage to DNA can cause mutations and possibly cancer, if not reversed by DNA repair mechanisms, while damage to proteins causes enzyme inhibition, denaturation and protein degradation.

Consequently, organisms contain a complex network of antioxidant metabolites and enzymes that work together to prevent oxidative damage to cellular components such as DNA, proteins and lipids. In general, antioxidant systems either prevent these reactive species from being formed, or remove them before they can damage vital components of the cell.

Antioxidants can cancel out the cell-damaging effects of free radicals. Furthermore, people who eat fruits and vegetables, which are good sources of antioxidants, have a lower risk of heart disease and some neurological diseases, and there is evidence that some types of vegetables, and fruits in general, probably protect against a number of cancers. These observations suggest that antioxidants might help prevent these conditions. There is also evidence that antioxidants might help prevent diseases such as macular degeneration, suppressed immunity due to poor nutrition, and neurodegeneration.

The brain is uniquely vulnerable to oxidative injury, due to its high metabolic rate and elevated levels of polyunsaturated lipids, the target of lipid peroxidation. Antioxidants prevent oxidative stress in neurons and prevent apoptosis and neurological damage.

Why AVIA Can Be Good for Your Health
Now we can begin to understand the role antioxidants play in maintaining our health and for the treatment of certain conditions. But AVIA goes yet a step further; its patent pending formula is dual action, also designed to stimulate the body’s own production of three key antioxidants: Glutathione, Catalase and Superoxide Dimutase. Therefore, we are not only directly receiving a high amount of antioxidants when we drink AVIA; we are also stimulating our body to produce more. This is one of the major differences in AVIA when compared to other antioxidant supplements.

But yet again, AVIA makes a difference and separates itself from the pack. Using a specially designed microcapsular formula, our SynPlex technology makes AVIA is the world’s first time-released beverage. AVIA contains millions of tiny microcapsules, about the size of a grain of sugar, which slowly dissolve in your system, releasing all these powerful actives over time and affording you all day protection.

Now having explained oxidation and the role antioxidants play in the prevention of certain conditions, what are the other actives and nutrients found in AVIA, and how can they help maintain our health?

Aside from the Maqui berry, AVIA contains several other important ingredients which are key to its synergistic effects.
Astaxanthin
Tumeric
Milk Thistle
Bacopa
Ashwaganda
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B6
Folate
AVIA is totally an all-natural product, without harmful or artificial preservatives, and is not pasteurized in any way. With its dual action antioxidant formula, which not only provides powerful antioxidants but additionally stimulates the body to produce its own, and SynPlex Technology, which allows these powerful actives to be released slowly over time, proves that Synaura AVIA is truly a breakthrough product and a first among nutritional supplements.
